An Educational Tour
Delhi has seen the rise and fall of many kings and kingdoms. There are many monuments around the city worth seeing. These are of great educational value.
This time when we had our winter holidays, we went to see the places of historical importance-With our teacher. We hired a bus. In the beginning, we paid a visit to the Qutub Minar. It is a pillar of five storeys. Two of its stories had fallen down. It was erected by Qutab-ud Din, the first king of slave dynasty. We admired the architectural beauty of the pillar. We went up to the first storey and observes the people below who looked small like dwarfs. We also saw the iron pillar that was situated nearby. it is known as the Ashoka’s pillar. It is more than two thousand years old. Next we were shown the carvings of the Hindu gods and goddesses on the stone slabs.
From the Qutab we went to Tughlaqabad Port. Here the old city of Delhi was once situated. Now it lay in ruins. Then we proceeded to Haut Kim which was the residence of the king. We relaxed for sometime on the green lawns. We had our lunch there and refreshed ourselves with tea.
Next we went to the Humayun Tomb where Humayun lay buried. We appreciated the Mughal art and architecture. There are many graves of the Mughals situated in that place. Our next place of visit was Kotla Tughlaq. He had a tomb and a mosque built in it. This place is known for the Ashoka Pillar which was brought from Meerut. Next we saw the ruins of PuranaQuila. It was started by Humayan but was completed by Slier Shah Suri.
Last of all we went to the Red Fort. It is the best building of majestic grandeur. We entered the Red Fort. There we saw the Diwan-e-Aam and Diwan-e-Khas. It displayed the architectural taste of the Great Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan., We visited the museum inside the fort. Many things of historical value were displayed there.
We learned a lot from the tour. It was highly educative an Educational Tour in true sense.
