Essay on “Pateti Festival”
The most important festival of the Zoroastrians is the Patcti. It! marks the beginning of the New Year for them and they celebrate Jashan on this day.
Zoroastrianism was founded by Zarathusastra in ancient Persia. In Zoroastrianism, fire is worshiped as the son of Ahura Mazda, who is known to be the representative of God. Parsis believe that the sacred fire was brought from the heaven by Zoroaster to earth. This fire is kept burning by the high priest of the ‘agiary’, the fire temple, which is the holy place of worship of Parsis.
On the day of Pateti, the Parsis wear traditional new clothes consisting of sacred vests, gara sarees, duglees and ornaments. They decorate their houses with flowers and rangolis in which the motif of fish is used. Then the whole family goes to the ‘agiary’. During this day, traditional dishes are made like – sabboti, mawa, niboi, patra, etc. People exchange sweets and food among the poor.
