A Memorable Evening
Having lived for more than three decades. I do have a whole lot of memories but one of my most memorable evenings is the one I spent on a sand dune in Osiyan, Jodhpur.
We had reached Jodhpur–my first trip to the Western sector of India. I was expecting expanses of sand dunes but everything was so green that I was taken aback and a bit disappointed because I was hoping to get a firsthand experience of deserts. One evening, we decided to go to on a drive and discover a few places ourselves. We met a couple of friends who suggested that we take the Osiyan road. Evenings are very pleasant in deserts bordering on cold- after all it was February! We stopped to pick up snacks and drinks and then hit the road. The drive was lovely on clear roads and lasted an hour and a hall We then reached the base of the sand dunes. I was ecstatic-it is another matter altogether that I struggled in the sand for a long time before I made it to the top. We sat there and watched the sunset which was a beautiful sight. At a distance rang the bells of the famous temple. It was a perfect scene —straight from the movies!
We had not taken the camera and perhaps it was just as well because I soaked up all that my eyes could see and the images are still fresh in my memory of that lovely evening.
