A Picnic Gone Wrong
“Come on!” Jasmine shouted excitedly. Her brother, Peter, ran after her. They could not wait to jump into the water. They had just laid out their picnic mat in a hurry. They had also put all the food on it.
Jasmine and Peter splashed about in the cool clear water. They laughed heartily and splashed water at each other. They did not keep an eye on their picnic food. They had left them uncovered on the mat. They had also left a bottle of soda open.
More than an hour later, Jasmine and Peter scrambled up the sand to their picnic mat. They were starving and they could not wait to eat. Their jaws dropped when they saw their food.
“Oh no! Our food cannot be eaten!” Jasmine exclaimed. There were flies all over the noodles and the plate of fried rice. A long row of ants had crawled up their open bottle of drink and into the opening. Peter tried to shoo the flies away but they kept coming back.
Jasmine and Peter were miserable. They began packing up. They did not have enough money to buy more food. They had no choice but to return home for a meal.
