Write a letter to your son studying abroad, advising him to be aloof from bad company, to study wholeheartedly and spend money thriftily.

Dear Ranjan
I hope you are in cheerful spirits and good health. Today itself I received a letter from your close friend, Rakesh. It pains me to learn that you are apathetic towards your studies. I had never thought of it even in my dream.
My dear son! God knows with what hopes I had sent you abroad to receive your higher education. As you stepped into the ship, you had promised me to do your studies with full concentration and remain aloof from the demoniac luxury. Have you completely forgotten your promise? I know very well that it is not your fault. Generally, one falls an easy prey to the glamorous atmosphere of a foreign country. Even then you should give up your bad company and lead a life of abstinence to get your education. You should always keep in mind the motto of going abroad far away from your country and your parents. You should not forget that if you remained unsuccessful in your mission, you would not be able to show your face to us.
I hope you will be able to make up the deficiency in your studies if you bid good-bye to the luxurious life of occidental civilization. Luxury destroys man at the root and you can get rid of it only when you forsake bad company.
Extravagance is like a leech. If it clings to anyone, it will suck his blood to such an extent that he will have to go from door to door like a mendicant. It is, therefore, better to keep away from it. I hope this is enough for you to understand what I mean. Write if there is any special thing. Let me convey your mother’s blessings to you. May you live long!
Looking forward to receiving a reply to my letter.
Your father
