Dear Pradeep
I promised to write to you about the games I play. Hockey and chess are my favourite games.
Of all outdoor games, I like hockey most. It is a fast game and requires a lot of energy and stamina. It keeps me physically fit. It develops quickness of limbs. You have to be very alert and fleet-footed. For indoors, I play chess. I like it very much. You may say it is slow and very dull. Apparently it is so. A man who does not know this game will feel bored to see two men sitting silent and moving a piece only after brooding deep and long for some time. But it is a very absorbing game. It makes you think. You think hard to anticipate the possible moves of your opponent. You have to stall, forestall and check them. There is no game so absorbing as chess. It becomes especially exciting when after some well-calculated moves, your Queen checkmates the opponent’s King.
Try to learn this game—the game of Kings—if you don’t know it.
Yours sincerely,
Raman
