Write a letter to the Editor of an English Daily stating me inconveniences, caused by the footpath hawkers in the city.

The Editor,
The Statesman,
Kolkata-700001.
Sir,
Through the columns of your renowned daily newspaper, I like to draw the attention of the competent authorities of the Kolkata Corporation and of the Police department as well as of political parties to the extreme inconveniences caused to the pedestrians and the driving persons as well by the countless shops set up on the pavements of the city like Kolkata.
It is a matter of great concern that almost all the footpaths of Kolkata are occupied by the hawkers. They sell various things like tea, fruits, garments, green vegetables, utensils, magazines, cosmetic goods etc. The pedestrians who are the legitimate users of footpaths have been literally pushed off by the trespassing hawkers. There is a narrow way for the pedestrians. The hawkers shout their trade-cry and vie with one another to capture the attention of every passer-by who gets lost in the confusion. There is hardly any room for old people to walk or little children to run about. As a result, they are compelled to walk on the roads. This causes traffic jam. Street accidents are very frequent as every inch of the footpath is occupied by the unauthorized hawkers. Really speaking, neither the corporation authorities nor the police are found to be interested to enforce the Government rules for the free use of the pavements.
I would, therefore, earnestly request you to take up your pen so that the Government may be stirred up and take the necessary steps to overcome the fatal situation as early as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Devdhar Sinha
