The Editor,

The Times of India,

Sir,

Kindly allow me to draw attention of the masses, through the column of your esteemed paper, towards the so called inaugural functions which cause so much national waste.

Inaugural functions have become a fashion these days. Whether there is a fair, an exhibition, a seminar, a bhoomi pujan etc., inaugural functions seems to have become a must. Since these inaugurations are mostly performed by high dignitaries, a celebrity or by a V.I.P. a huge amount of money is spent on security arrangements and other ceremonial formalities like the expenses on decoration, refreshments etc.

Being a concerned citizen, I strongly protest against these useless and time consuming ceremonies. Infact, I feel these ceremonial observances bring laxity in the Government as too much energy and time is wasted in their preparation. Besides, these things defeat the very spirit of participation as after these rituals not much interest is left in the real purpose of functions and they are simply looked as a routine.

Moreover, the expenditure incurred on such inaugural ceremonies cause losses to the national exchequer. If sum total of the expenses incurred annually on such functions is calculated, it will run into crores of rupees. If this huge amount is spent on welfare schemes, then it will go a long way in helping the poor sections of the society. I hope you will give space to my view point, and help make people aware of this national waste.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

XYZ.
