Who organized the first dog show?
The first Doc SHOW was organized by a prominent Newcastle sportsman, Mr. Shorthouse, and a local gunsmith, Mr Pape, and held at Newcastle upon Tyne Town Hall, 28-29 June 1859. There was a total of 60 entries in two classes, one for pointers and the other for setters, and the prizes consisted of guns manufactured and donated by Mr Pape. The prize for pointers went to R. Brailsford’s liver-and-white dog, while the prize for setters went to J. Jobling’s Dandy. Mr Brailsford, who had conceived the idea of the show, acted as a judge of the settle class and Mr Jobling as a judge for the pointer class.
