Who offered the first lessons?
The first DRIVING LESSONS in Britain were offered by the Motor Carriage Supply Co. of Balderton Street, London in June 1900. The Instructor was a Mr Hankinson, described by one appreciative lady pupil as ‘patient, persevering and encouraging’. The Motor Carriage Supply Co. gave tuition in driving only as a sideline to their main business, which was the first in England to be described as a garage.
