Who made the first news film?
The first NEWSFILM (other than sporting subjects) was made by photographer Birt Acres of High Barnet, Hertfordshire on the occasion of the opening of the real Canal by Kaiser Wilhelm II on 20 June 1895. Besides the arrival of the Kaiser at Holtenau aboard his yacht Hohenzollern, Acres took films of the laying of a memorial stone, and of a number of other events held as part of the celebrations, including scenes of the Kaiser reviewing his troops at Hamburg and leading a procession through the streets of Berlin. This was screened before the public on 14 January 1896.
