Who introduced sanitary napkins?

First SANITARY NAPKINS

The first SANITARY NAPKINS were introduced in 1921 by Kimberly-Clark of Neenah, Wisc. under the name of Kotex. The wood cellulose used in their manufacture had been developed by chemist Ernst Mahler in 1918 to alleviate an acute shortage of linen bandages in US military hospitals. The new cell cotton bandages were manufactured by Kimberly-Clark, but it was only when they learned that Red Cross nurses had been putting them to personal use that it became apparent there was a market for a purpose-made absorbent sanitary napkin. Prior to this women had generally used rags, a practice insanitary and potentially dangerous.
