First Official AIRMAIL STAMPS
The first official AIRMAIL STAMPS were issued by the Italian Post Office in 1917, when 200,000 25c Express Letter stamps were overprinted with the words ‘Esperimento Posta Aerea—Maggio 1917—’Torino—Roma Roma–Torino’ for the experimental airmail service operated between Rome and Turin in May of that year.
