The first BLOOD BANK was established in 1931 by Prof. Sergei Yudin at the Sklifosovsky Institute, Moscow’s central emergency service hospital. The term ‘blood bank’ was coined by Bernard Fantus, who set up America’s first centralized depot for the storage of blood at Cook County Hospital, Chicago 1937.
