Sir,
I was shocked to read the news of another poor bride’s death in the ruthless claws of dowry. It has of late become an everyday phenomenon to read such heart-rending news. Has humanity completely vanished from society?
The gruesome torture, the young brides are subjected to, is not only terrible but also stirs a valid question what is our society heading for? Can greed make an animal out of a man? Is there no trust, no love left in human relations?
Our society where women once were worshipped needs to understand that human life is more precious than money. And the concept of dowry sounds completely illogical as it is a share of the bride and not for the bride-groom. Illiteracy and ignorance are two major causes behind this.
The authorities and political leaders should try to arouse social awareness, instead of being busy in the selfish race of gaining power. The sooner this is done, the better for our society and humanity as a whole.
Yours faithfully,
Amitabh Bachan
