Wearing Second-hand Clothes
Cathy stared longingly at the beautiful pink dress in the display case. She wished she could wear it. She looked at the price tag. It cost thirty dollars! Her mother could not afford to buy it for her.
When Cathy arrived home, she saw a bag of clothes in her room. They were from her cousin. Whenever her cousin outgrew her clothes, she would give it to Cathy. The clothes were often old and faded. Some of them did not even fit Cathy. As her cousin was much bigger-sized than she was, the clothes always looked too baggy for Cathy. However, Cathy knew that she did not have a choice. Her parents were too poor to buy her new clothes. Going through the clothes, Cathy took out a dress that was in her favourite colour. There was even a yellow flower embroidered at the side. She liked it very much. Her mother could alter the length and the sides so that it would fit her better. Then, Cathy could wear it to her friend’s birthday party. She took out the rest of the clothes and placed them on her bed. She liked them. She could not wait to wear them.
Cathy hoped that she would be able to save enough money one day to buy her own dress.
