The Train Crash
A train collided with another train and toppled to its side. Minutes later, smoke was billowing from the two trains.
Jane watched the news in horror. Two trains had been going in opposite directions. It was evening and the trains were packed with passengers. The trains were going very fast but the tracks were old and rusty. The trains collided at a sharp turn in the tracks. Jane thought the trains were going to explode but they did not. Instead, many people came running to help. There were shouts coming from inside the trains. Many people were trapped and could not escape.
Rescue workers soon arrived at the scene. Jane watched as the workers broke the glass windows of the carriages to reach the people inside. Some of them climbed in to get the passengers out. The rescue workers dragged toddlers and old ladies out of the carriages through the broken windows. To her dismay, Jane found out that many passengers had already died. Those who were rescued were seriously injured.
Jane felt sorry for the victims in the crash. She hoped that more people would be rescued soon. She decided to read the newspapers the next morning to find out more about the accident.
