The Taxi
Mrs. Wood and her son, Alex, were waiting anxiously for a taxi. Alex was already late for his art class. Just then, they saw a taxi cruising down the road towards them.
Mrs. Wood and Alex frantically waved their hands up and down to stop the taxi. The taxi screeched to a stop a short distance away from them. Suddenly, a well-dressed man rushed out from behind them. He pushed them aside and reached for the door of the taxi. He jumped in and was about to slam the door when Mrs. Wood yanked the door open.
The man stared at her in irritation. “I’m in a hurry!” he said rudely. “Wait for the next taxi.”
“We stopped the taxi first!” Mrs. Wood shouted at the top of her voice.
The taxi driver nodded his head and told the man that he had stopped for Mrs. Wood and Alex. The man refused to budge. He folded his arms and leant back.
Mrs. Wood yelled at the man again. The taxi driver told the man that he would not drive off if the man did not get out of the taxi. The man had no choice but to step out of the taxi. He watched in dismay as Mrs. Wood and Alex got in and the taxi sped off.
