The Landfill
Priscilla and her brother, Gilbert, dragged their feet to the landfill in front of them. There were smoke and dust in the air and they could smell an overpowering stench. There were flies buzzing everywhere. Just before entering the landfill, each of them tied a handkerchief around their mouth and nose.
The place was filled to the brim with old cardboard boxes, rusted metal containers, and even bed frames and wardrobes. Priscilla and Gilbert sifted through the piles of rubbish. They were looking for aluminium cans and plastic bottles. They climbed with great agility over the mountainous piles of rubbish to get what they wanted. They tossed everything that they needed into a corner. After more than an hour, they had collected quite a pile. They were covered with dirt and sweat but they were delighted. They would be able to get quite a lot of money from the recycling company for what they had found. The children tossed everything into a huge bag and lugged it to the company. They hoped that they would be able to collect enough money for their meals that day.
Priscilla and Gilbert were delighted when they received a crisp ten-dollar note from the recycling company. They would be able to have a proper meal with their parents that day.
