The Honest Taxi Driver
There have been numerous complaints in the newspapers about taxi drivers being rude and dishonest. However, there are also honest ones among them. There have been many reports in the newspapers of taxi drivers returning items and cash to their rightful owners.
Robert, a taxi driver, had a similar experience. Like most taxi drivers, he could speak fluent English and was licensed to ply his taxi between Changi Airport and the big hotels in the city.
One Saturday morning, Robert picked up a tourist and took him to Holiday Inn Hotel. While Robert was cleaning his taxi later in the day, he discovered a small travelling bag in the back seat. It contained some documents and a wallet. There were several thousand dollars in the wallet.
Robert called the nearest police post to seek police assistance to return the bag to the tourist. The bag was finally returned to the owner, who gave Robert a hundred dollars as a reward. Later, Robert generously donated the money to the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped.
