The Dragon Boat Race
“Hurry up, Mum!” Peter shouted as he raced towards the Singapore River. His mother rushed after him. They were going to watch the Dragon Boat Race.
A crowd of people had already gathered at the river. Some of them were already cheering for their friends. Everyone was very excited. Peter pushed his way to the front of the crowd. It was the first time he had been watching the race. He wanted to get a good view. The participants gathered around their teams. Some of them were doing stretching exercises; others were chatting happily. Everyone could not wait for the race to begin.
Before long, a signal sounded and the race began. The participants were very good. Their paddles moved in and out of the water in unison. Peter could hear them saying left, right, left, right. Some of the boats were much faster than the others. Peter craned his neck to see them as they rowed down the river.
Before long, the race ended. There was a clear winner. The boat was ahead of the other boats from the start of the race. Peter clapped and cheered for all the participants. He could not wait for the day when he would be old enough to take part in the race too.
