The Crowded Train

William was on the train. He was on his way home. The train was packed with passengers.

When the train stopped at a station, an elderly man carrying a bag of groceries stepped inside. He looked around for a seat but no one wanted to give up their seat to him. Just then, the train jerked forward. The old man lost his balance and stumbled forward. He dropped his bag of groceries. Oranges and apples rolled out of his bag and onto the floor. William rushed over to help him. He ran after the fruits and picked up as many as he could. Then, he helped the old man to put them into his bag. The old man was very grateful. He squatted on the floor, counting the number of oranges and apples in his bag. He was annoyed when he realized that one was missing. William looked around and saw an orange under one of the seats. He reached in to retrieve it for the old man. The old man thanked him profusely.

When the train stopped at the next station, both William and the old man got off. The old man was grateful that William did not ignore him like the rest of the passengers. William’s face burnt with embarrassment as the old man heaped praise on him.
