The Accident
Mrs. Williams was at the household section of the department store. She did not notice the two young boys playing behind her. They were pushing and shoving each other.
Mrs. Williams picked up a large porcelain salad bowl and examined the designs on it. She put it back carefully and walked on. She had barely walked a few steps when a loud crash reverberated throughout the household department. Mrs. Williams glanced behind her and saw the two boys standing near many porcelain fragments on the floor.
A sales assistant strode up to the boys and confronted them. However, they pointed an accusing finger at Mrs. Williams. Mrs. Williams was shocked and reprimanded the boys for wrongly accusing her. The boys stood their ground and insisted that Mrs. Williams had not placed the bowl properly back in its place. Mrs. Williams shouted at the boys for not telling the truth. The boys retorted and told her that she was being irresponsible for trying to shirk her responsibility. Dumbfounded, Mrs. Williams looked around for witnesses.
Fortunately, an elderly couple vouched for Mrs. Williams’ innocence. They had seen the two boys playing earlier and had also seen them knock the bowl over. The boys were dragged to the office and their parents were informed. Mrs. Williams thanked the elderly couple for their help.
