Our New Maid
“Let me show you how to use the garden hose,” Mr. Thomas told his new maid, Rosy. Rosy nodded and watched attentively. Mr. Thomas showed her how to attach the hose to the tap and tighten the screw. Then, he turned on the tap and showed Rosy how to water the plants.
Rosy continued watering the plants in the garden. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and their son, Gabriel, went out for a meal. Everyone thought that it would be a breeze for Rosy to water the plants. However, several minutes after they left, there was a loud popping sound. The hose had burst! Water was gushing out of the tap!
Rosy was very frightened. She did not know what to do. She tried turning off the tap but it was stuck. More and more water was coming out. Soon, Rosy was soaked. There was so much water that the car porch next to the garden was soon flooded.
By the time the family returned home, there was water flowing out onto the road. Mr. Thomas was shocked. He splashed through the water to turn off the tap. Mrs. Thomas handed him a spanner. Together, they finally turned off the tap. Rosy apologized for what had happened but no one blamed her. Everyone helped to clean up the mess.
