Learning Magic
My sister, Alicia, has taken an interest in magic. She received her first box containing magic tricks from our uncle on her birthday. Since then, she has been forcing everyone to watch her perform her magic tricks.
Alicia’s favourite trick is the ‘magic die’. She puts a huge die into a container. When she shakes it, the huge die disappears and small dice appear instead. All of us know what the trick is but we pretend that we do not. We always applaud and cheer when Alicia proudly shows us her trick. Alicia tries to learn a new trick every week. She has been trying to turn a few colourful scarfs into a bunch of flowers. No matter how hard she tries, she always fails. We have told her many times that she has to buy the magic set that comes with the special scarfs and flowers. However, she does not believe us. She thinks that she can turn my mother’s scarfs into flowers. The more Alicia fails, the more she wants to try again. We have to spend our whole evenings watching her practice.
My parents and I are tired of watching Alicia practice the same trick over and over again. We hope she will give up and try something else soon.
