Helping Out

“Scrub the dishes with this sponge. Then, rinse off the detergent and put the dishes on the rack,” said Sandra’s mother Sandra nodded eagerly. She had been waiting for the day when she would be able to help her mother wash the dishes. She could not wait to start

“Be careful!” Sandra’s mother called out before she left the kitchen. Sandra ignored her mother. She was already washing the first plate. It felt slippery with the detergent on it. She found it difficult to hold on to the dishes. However, soon, she was humming as she washed the dishes. Sandra was about to put the last dish on the rack when her pet dog, Toby, bounded towards her. Before she could shout out a warning, Toby rushed right into her. Sandra screamed as the porcelain plate slipped out of her hands and knocked into the glasses next to her. Everything crashed onto the floor. Tiny pieces flew everywhere on the kitchen floor. Hearing the noise, Sandra’s mother rushed into the kitchen.

The kitchen was a mess. Sandra’s mother knew what must have happened the moment she saw Toby standing there with its tail between its legs. Picking Toby up, she carried it out of the kitchen before helping Sandra to clear up the mess.
