An Accident at the Science Laboratory
June and her classmates were in the science laboratory for the first time. They were having a Science lesson on magnets.
June worked with her partner, Alice. They had to hang a magnet to the metal stand on the table. As both of them were quite short, they had to stand on tiptoes to reach the top of the stand. Their teacher had advised them to hold on to the stand but they did not heed her advice. They were too engrossed in hanging the magnet. Suddenly, June lost her balance. She pushed against the stand. The stand wobbled vigorously and toppled towards them. June managed to jump away in time but Alice did not. The stand hit her head with a thud and she fell over backward. A bruise appeared on her head. Blood was soon dripping profusely from it. Alice cried out in pain and pressed her hand against her forehead to stop the bleeding. June ran to tell her teacher what had happened. Some of their classmates tried to help but to no avail. No one was able to stop the bleeding. Alice was already sobbing in pain. Their teacher called for the ambulance.
Alice received five stitches on her wound. She had a huge bandage on her forehead and she had to stay home for two days.
