A True Friend
Thomas was a popular boy in class. All his classmates liked him because he always gave them presents. He bought pencils, pens, and erasers for them. They looked forward to getting presents from him every day.
Once, Thomas forgot to bring his pocket money to school. He did not have money to buy gifts for his classmates. He also did not have any money for food. He was very hungry. He asked his classmates to lend him some money but no one gave him a hand. They ignored him during recess and they did not let him join in their games.
Thomas was very upset. He realized that they were not his true friends. They liked him only because he gave them things. Just then, one of his classmates, Patrick, came up to him. He gave Thomas one dollar to buy a bowl of noodles. Thomas was pleasantly surprised. He thanked Patrick and bought himself a bowl of noodles. Then, both of them ate their food together.
From that day onwards, Thomas and Patrick were best friends. Thomas stopped buying presents for his other classmates. He was sad that his classmates did not want to talk to him. However, Thomas was thrilled to be able to find a true friend.
