A Simple Life
Joshua yawned and crawled out of bed. He could hardly open his eyes. He had worked late the night before at the coffee shop. By the time he returned home, it was after midnight. He fumbled with the buttons on his uniform as he got dressed.
Joshua kept falling asleep at school that day. He was scolded by his teacher for not completing his homework. However, he did not breathe a word of what he was doing after school. Joshua was too embarrassed to tell anyone that his father had lost his job and he had to earn his own pocket money. At recess, Joshua only drank water from the water cooler. He only had enough money for dinner. Although his stomach was growling after school, he went to work as a sales assistant at a shop selling mobile phones. It was hard work. He was tired but he had to keep smiling at the customers. In the evening, he had a simple dinner of rice and vegetables before going to the coffee shop to start work.
Joshua was exhausted by the time he returned home. He wondered when his father would be able to find a job. For now, he no longer had the luxury of buying CDs or eating at restaurants. He had to live a very simple life.
