A Party Gone Wrong
Tracy stuck the last balloon on the wall. Then, she got down from the ladder. She took a step back to admire her work. She was helping her cousin, Brenda, to decorate her living room for her birthday party. There were many colourful balloons along the top of the wall. There was also a huge silver banner hung across the room. It said ‘Happy Birthday’.
Tracy went to her cousin’s room to change for the party. She talked and laughed with her cousin. They were in high spirits. They went outside to wait for the guests when it was time for the party to start. They had the shock of their lives when they stepped into the living room and saw the decorations. All the balloons had burst. They hung limply from the wall. One side of the banner had fallen and it was dangling above the coffee table. The decorations were a disaster. It was too late to blow any more balloons. Tracy hurriedly stuck the banner back and took down the balloons.
Brenda was sullen when her friends arrived. She hardly smiled. When her friends asked her why there were so many pieces of tape on the wall, she burst into tears. She was so upset about the decorations that she felt that her birthday party was ruined.
