A Loyal Friend
“You’re a thief!” shrieked the boy. Jenny stared in disbelief as a group of boys accused her classmate, Glenda, of being a thief. Glenda was holding an open wallet in one hand and several two-dollar notes in the other hand. She looked sheepishly at the boys.
Jenny marched over to the boys. She wanted them to apologize to Glenda for accusing her of being a thief. She would never steal anyone’s money. However, when she tried to stand up for Glenda, her classmate nudged her and told her that she had taken the wallet. Jenny stared at Glenda in bewilderment. However, she did not turn on her. She knew straight away that something must have happened that made Glenda steal the wallet. Jenny urged Glenda to return the wallet and money to the boys. Then, she asked Glenda why she had stolen the money. Glenda told her that her father had lost his job and she did not have any money for food. Jenny immediately consoled Glenda and gave her some money to buy food.
Jenny did not tell the incident to anyone else. She persuaded the boys not to report the matter to the principal. She also offered to pack some sandwiches for Glenda for recess every day. Glenda was very grateful to Jenny for her help.
