A Determined Old Man
Mr. Williams carried a small kettle that was filled with water. He hobbled to the stove and turned it on. Then, he waited for the water to boil. He was going to make a cup of instant drink for breakfast.
After breakfast, Mr. Williams took out his book and began reading. He was sitting for an examination in a week’s time. Mr. Williams lived alone. He was eighty years old and he could not walk straight. However, he was determined to be independent. He cooked his own food and took care of himself. He also wanted to obtain a degree. Mr. Williams flipped through the pages of the book eagerly. He was very interested in what he was learning. He was glad that he still had the chance to study even though he was so old. In the day, Mr. Williams studied, and at night, he attended classes. He had to use a walking stick when he went for classes but he was one of the most hard-working students in the class. He asked as many questions as he could to make sure that he understood what was being taught.
Mr. Williams often dreamed of the day when he would graduate. He knew that he would be able to make it.
