A Defiant Boy
Sam was standing at the side of the road. He was waiting impatiently for the traffic to clear. The pedestrian crossing was just a stone’s throw away but he refused to walk there.
Sam’s neighbour walked past. She told Sam that he should cross at the pedestrian crossing but he refused to heed her advice. When a group of his classmates walked past and told him to cross at the pedestrian crossing in front, he ignored them too. Just then, the traffic cleared. Sam dashed across the road. He was halfway across the road when he heard the screeching of brakes and the blasting of a car horn. He turned and saw a red car speeding towards him. Sam jumped up in fright. The road was clear earlier. He was in a dilemma as to whether to turn back or run forward. Luckily, a man who was walking past on the other side dashed across and dragged Sam to the other side of the road. He was just in time. The red car sped past them and the driver glared at Sam.
Sam was too shaken to move by then. His knees were so wobbly that he could not stand straight. The stranger told Sam sternly that he should only cross the road at the pedestrian crossing.
