A Burst Water Pipe
Samuel was on his way home from the cinema when he noticed that the street in front of him was flooded. He looked up at the sky in puzzlement. It was a clear day. There was no rain.
Many other pedestrians were as curious as Samuel. Everyone walked towards the street to take a look. The water was already at Samuel’s ankles and it was increasing. Samuel examined the surroundings closely to find the source of the water. He noticed that the water was gushing out from behind a lorry. He ran there to check. He was alarmed to see that the lorry had hit a fire hydrant. Water was gushing out from the hydrant. No one had realized what was happening. He used his mobile phone to call the police and the civil defence. He stood there together with other pedestrians as they waited helplessly for help to arrive. They did not know how to stop the water from spewing out of the hydrant.
Samuel heaved a sigh of relief when the civil defence force arrived. Within seconds, officers had shut off the water mains to prevent the water from flowing out. Then, they set about fixing the hydrant. Samuel continued on his way home. He was glad that the problem had been solved.
