A Bicycle Accident
Mrs. Winslow was on her way to the market. She attached her basket at the back of the bicycle and got on. As it was a hot day, she held on to an umbrella with her right hand while steering with her left hand.
Mrs. Winslow was cycling along the pavement when she heard the shrill ring of another bell behind her. She was unable to turn around as she was holding her umbrella. She tried to speed up but the ringing became even louder. Mrs. Winslow panicked and turned the bicycle to the side to let the other cyclist pass her. However, she was too late, the other cyclist bumped into her from behind. Mrs. Winslow flew off her bicycle and landed on a grass patch. Her bicycle had fallen on its side. Her basket had been thrown a short distance away. Mrs. Winslow was shocked and irritated. She was about to scold the cyclist for being so reckless when she realized that it was a young boy on a bicycle that was much too big for him.
The boy stared at Mrs. Winslow for a while. Then, he apologized to her and hurried away on his bicycle. Mrs. Winslow watched as he cycled unsteadily along the pavement. She hoped he would not cause any more accidents.
