TV Programmes Must Be Censored
TV’s vast potentialities as a powerful means of mass communication cannot be underestimated. Television is ultimate in entertainment and enlightenment. But if left unbridled it can be the most dangerous corrupting agent. So there is every need to curb the freedom of expression as far as TV is concerned. Many serials are mediocre stuff, just crude copy of formula films. Cheap comedy, insipid romance, noise in the name of music, sex display, highlighted violence, villain’s glorification are the hallmarks of TV programmes. They are doing irreparable damage to social climate. Need of the hour is healthy and refined entertainment. Programmes should be such as could be seen by all the members of the family together. Programmes satiating vulgar tastes must not be shown. Silly, sickly sentimental romances, absurd situations, Vulgar cabarets, obscenity in the name of realism, etc. must face the scissors of censorship. Expression of thoughts must not be given a licence. Man and woman roamed all naked in the jungle. But in civilized society they cannot be allowed to do so. They must be forced to wear robes and clothes to tool, more beautiful and charming. Uncensored programmes are corrupting the impressionable mind of our youngsters. They have diluted our eternal values. They have boosted materialism and consumerism. They have blunted the intelligence of man and he has lost the discerning faculty to sift grain from the chaff. What is good is shunned and what is bad is adored. So checks, restraints and censorship are badly needed to keep our hard earned culture intact. The sooner it is done, the better it is.
