The System of Examinations
Examination—the very word evokes a whole range of feelings among the students. Examinations are regarded as a test of student’s attainment in the educational field.
True, our present system of education is meant to test the abilities of students but it often reduces to a test the capacity of cramming in a student. The test of learning is the conceptual understanding of a subject which it appears to overlook.
Moreover, this also seems a negative point that a student who does not study the whole year and only studies few days before the examinations, cramming a few important questions may fare well while a much more brilliant student might not succeed in examination because of his failure to cram.
In addition to this, sometimes it also happens that under the pressure of time the examiner is not able to do justice with the answers and does average marking. Naturally students suffer due to this.
If we analyse the exam system then we will come to the conclusion that the present system of examination has done more harm than good. The aim of education is to awaken intellect and make one balanced and more able. If education ensures this only then it is worth adoption.
Saying all this, we still have to admit that exams are a necessity.
