The Influence of Films on Young People
Films have become an integral part of our life now. After the television has entered our homes, films continue to influence deeply all of us especially the youth. Young and old see films avidly and follow the behaviour, patterns of the actors and actresses. The current cable TV culture has revolutionaries the concepts of the youth especially.
The youth are deeply influenced in their dress, habits and behaviour. They try to adopt the manners of the actors and are thus exploited by the people in fashion business. Each successful film changes the dress of young boys and girls and the changes give an air of obscenity to the youth. This unhealthy impact of the films is a tragedy of modern times. The westernized ways of living are changing the Indian ways of life rapidly. The other unhealthy trend as a consequence of watching movies is the increasing violence, murders, kidnapping and a desire to become rich instantly in this society. Films, in short, are blamed for the most of the ills that the society is suffering from in modern times.
Of course, films have also a healthy and wholesome influence on the youth. Films with a social purpose and message do instill the values of patriotism, national integration and human values in the young people. They inspire them to fight social evils like casteism, rampant dowry, corruption and nepotism. But the general reaction is : Alas ! How many such films are being made today? The films that our young people are exposed to are full of gory violence and sex. And if they follow the example of their screen gods and goddesses, the youth are not to blame. The fault lies with the films and the film makers.
