Scams in India
Today everyone knows that India is a rich country but not all know that Indian politicians are rich while the Indian citizens are poor.
Today the leaders in order to get a maximum number of votes make false and high promises to the people and as soon as they win the election and get the majority they never fulfill their promises.
After Independence, India was sanctioned a huge amount of money by different organizations for the upliftment of the country but the corrupt politicians used the money to fill their own wallets. They divided people into religions, castes, etc. so that the masses would get entangled in their own matters and the politicians will remain unquestioned.
From the view of per capita income, India is the poorest country although it has the largest natural resources. After more than half a century of Independence, some Indian villages still do not have a proper drinking water arrangement, roads, electricity, etc.
Over the last ten years, scandals are not new for our country as they come and go. The first major swindle that came to light in 1992 was the Securities Scandal in which a huge amount of money was illegally removed from the financial institutes and banks and was invested in the share market. The estimates of embezzlement from the system ranged from Rs. 5,000 crore to Rs. 9,000 crore. Out of this huge amount Rs. 4,000 crore was recovered in the form of seized securities and property and the rest is frozen abroad.
It was during 1994, India was facing a shortage of sugar, and the decision to import sugar was kept under the wrap. Suddenly the sugar scandal rocked the country in which India suffered directly. It resulted in huge losses worth crores and the moment reports of probable imports were leaked, the prices skyrocketed. And those who had booked the consignment at a given rate became millionaires overnight.
Then there are the other scams like the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha scam, the housing scam, the Hawala scam, the list is endless as this scam keeps on happening. The latest scam to hit the country is the Telgi scam which is related to revenue stamps.
Earlier the exposure of scandals used to leave masses aghast but now these are routine and the people have not much attention left for them. And it is through media that people become aware of these scams.
Scams come and go but no action can be taken against them for they are done by our corrupt politicians. So, politicians should resolve to do away with their corrupt habits and work towards the progress of the country.
