Newspapers mean different things for different people. For some, newspapers are their lifeline without which they cannot even possibly think of living. Through it they get the news from the world over. Some people keep cuttings of articles for future references whereas there are some who tear it into pieces after reading it. For an illiterate person newspaper is merely a paper for wrapping up articles.
A large number of people grab newspapers first on getting up in the morning. They feel uncomfortable until they have known all what happened the previous day. Newspapers also express their opinion on social and political matters.
Moreover, newspaper is an important link between the Government and the public for it gives news as to what the Government is doing and at times also, through its column highlights public views/opinion in front of the Government. It enhances national and international awareness about vital matter/issues of public interest and it also serves as a social reformer through its enlightening articles.
But sometimes newspaper engages in sensational reporting which has effect on the public.
