Newspaper Drive

- Why is a newspaper drive conducted?
Every month the community centre in our neighbourhood organizes a newspaper drive. A little van sponsored by one of the community members takes us volunteers around the block to collect newspapers from each home in our neighbourhood.
Some buildings have many apartments so we make a human chain standing at 3 meter intervals passing the newspaper bundles like relay batons. The first Sunday of every month is newspaper drive day so everyone keeps the newspaper bundles ready for us so we don’t waste any time. Some buildings are very organized and they have their bundles ready and waiting for us outside their gates.
Its fun helping out with newspaper drives. It gives me a chance to meet all my neighbours. The newspapers we collect are then sold to the ‘raddiwallla’ and the money we get is deposited with the community centre and used for the betterment of our community.
