My Favourite Game – Football
Of all of the games I play, football is my favour. To start with, let me first tell you, where football can be played best. You need a large patch of level ground, where the players can run freely. The boundaries of the football ground should be clearly marked. A straight line divides the ground, and in the center of the ground a circle is marked. Four goal-posts are required, two at each end of the field.
Each team has eleven players on its side. The teams are divided into five forwards, three half- backs, two full-backs, and one goalkeeper. A coin is tossed to decide on which half of the ground either team will play. The players must try to kick the ball between the goal-posts of the opposite team. When this takes place, a goal is scored.
A football game normally carries on for about an hour and a half. Football is played all over the world, and ranks as one of the most popular sports in Europe and South America. A referee blows the whistle at the start of a game, and then all the excitement begins.
When a goal is made the loud clapping and cheering from an enthusiastic crowd will excite even a passer-by who has no interest in the game at all.
Football teaches its players to be disciplined, and improves their concentration. But above all it teaches the players to lose with grace, as victory is not always attained – after all, it matters not who won or lost – but how you played the game!
