Mexico Basin

The Gulf of Mexico Basin is also an Ocean, with an area of 15,92,800 square kilometer. Its average depth is 1,486 meter with the deepest point Sigsbe Deep, having a depth of 3,789 meter. It is an ocean basin largely surrounded by the North American continent and the island of Cuba. It is bounded by the northeast, north and northwest by the Gulf Coast of the United States, on the southwest and south by Mexico, and on the southeast by Cuba. In Texas and Louisiana, it is often called as, ‘The Third Coast.’ The shape of this basin is roughly oval.
