Family Planning
The Indian population is increasing very fast. India is the second largest populated country in the world. Indian population is increasing by more than a crore people every year. The death-rate is decreasing due to the progress of medical science. The man in general is experiencing difficulties due to acute shortage of necessities of life. He finds the queue everywhere. There is a requirement to check the growth and keep the population under control. It is necessary for each and every couple to understand that family planning is an appropriate answer for a small family.
Majority in India today even after 60 years of independence is struggling for essential commodities. They are not getting even full meals a day. They do not have shelter of their own. There is a big problem of unemployment in the country. The educated youth are struggling for jobs. There are a number of youth who are highly educated but are compromising with petty jobs. We cannot solve the unemployment problem without limiting the size of the family.
A large family is a curse today. That directly affects the economic standard of the family. A man with small family maintains better standard of living. It is the requirement of time to have a small and planned family.
A number of efforts already been made by the government to check the population, but we haven’t achieved success to the desired extent. We are required to increase our efforts in this direction to control the growth. There is a need to educate and motivate the people to have planned family. There are the people in the society who oppose the methods of family planning. They are either believing in superstition or are conservative on religious grounds. Many people in the society have the misconception that the operation against family planning weakens the man or the woman. They have the misunderstanding that the operation has adverse medical effect. There are the people in our society who have the gender preference. They want male child to continue in their generation. There are the cases where a number of children take birth in the race for a male child. All out efforts are required to spread the education and wide range programmes to clear the misbeliefs of the people. A system of encouragement is to be evolved by which the people realise about the advantages of small family and disadvantages of large family. They should go to adopt the family planning measures voluntarily. They are to be educated about the social changes which have allowed the girls to feel at par with the boys. They should realise that education in respect of their female child is equally important like that of a male child. That will constrict the gender conception among the masses in the society. If we succeed to implement the remedial measures and motivate the people towards the goal, it will inspire them to go to the operation table voluntarily for the needful. It will be a big achievement for checking the growth upto the desired level.
The day the majority of the countrymen gets appropriate education, they will automatically understand that their children can be given required nourishment, education, medical care, good standard of living and all round healthy atmosphere, only when the parents are having small family. That impression will work to motivate them exercise the method of family planning willingly. As a whole that will be the instrumental factor to solve the problems related to population and it will simultaneously help in building up a new India.
We know that the crime rates are increasing in the society day-by-day. The very reason for the same is high population which is the root cause of unemployment. This problem is becoming more complicated day-by-day. Well qualified youth are roaming joblessly. Many of them are becoming the victims of frustration, which is a cause for them to adopt the path of criminal activities. It is obvious that idleness creates the devilish activities. The cause is required to be rooted out by checking the growth-rate drastically.
India is a country where majority of the population is working on the farms. Because of increase in the population, the land is being divided into small pieces. They are unable to produce the crop to meet their requirement. That is the reason why the persons of that profession are becoming poor day-by-day. The educated youth are also running away from this profession due to constant reduction in its lucrativeness.
When a person knows the adverse effects of high population, he must makeup his mind to ensure a small family. That will be the only way out to minimize the problems. It is a must to keep a manageable family to come out of poverty and move towards progress and prosperity.
There is a need to evolve an effective national policy on the subject in order to check the growth as early as possible. There should be well organised camps which can carry out operations periodically. Adequate medical care should be extended to the people who have undergone the operation of family planning. Birth control devices should be made available liberally and free of cost. Sterilization operation should be encouraged with monetary incentives. As a result, public opinion in favour of small family will gradually grow. On the contrary, the defaulters should be discouraged in the society. That will give a wide message to countrymen and will be a visual education to the people to follow.
11 July is the World Population Day. Let all the countrymen take pledge on that day and take concrete steps to adopt the remedial measures towards family planning. Let us also take pledge to keep India’s population within the limit of the boundaries to make the country more advanced, powerful and united.
