A Visit to a Hospital
Essay No. 01
Last week we, the students of Class VIII, were taken to a hospital for a visit by our school. We were accompanied by our biology teacher. We entered the hospital through the Casualty Department. Its department handled emergency cases, and there was a great deal of activity going on with doctors and nurses attending them.
We then went upstairs and had a look at the male and female wards. Then we spent some time in the children’s ward. We had brought sweets for the patients, which we distributed. Some of the children were so seriously ill that they could not eat and we felt really sorry for them. We talked to them and tried to cheer them up. From there we were taken to the x-ray department, the surgical wing, and the pathology section. Short lectures were given to us and we took notes.
At one stage, I got separated from the group, and while looking for my friends I opened a door at random. This turned out to be a private room — there were far more facilities available in it than in a general ward. However, the frail old lady lying on the bed did not look happy at all. I went up to her and instead of getting angry at the invasion of her privacy, she requested me to stay. She asked me all about myself and then told me that I reminded her of her granddaughter. Before taking leave, I promised to come and see her again.
Our visit to the hospital was a very educational experience indeed!

A Visit to A Hospital
A hospital is an institution in which sick and injured people are given medical or surgical treatment. No one happily goes there. But all of us might have gone there.
Last week I happened to visit the local hospital. There was a great rush of visitors in the compound who came to meet their patients.
My uncle was admitted thereafter he met with an accident. He was going to his shop when a scooter hit him. He was badly injured. He was immediately taken to the nearby Aggarsen Hospital.
When I went to meet him, he was asleep. There were many other patients. They were suffering from different diseases. Some of the cryings is due to pain. Some were sleeping.
The hospital was neat and clean. It was visiting hour, so there was a crowd of friends and relatives.
A young woman was lying with serious burns. In the next ward, a man had been stabbed in the back.
Doctors and nurses were moving about. They were attending to the patients. They were full of love and sympathy.
The hospital presented a horrible look. I felt very sad and returned home in a contemplative mood.

A Visit To a Hospital
Visiting a hospital is indeed an unpleasant experience. The atmosphere in a hospital is gloomy. Last week, I had to visit Wellington Hospital where my cousin, who had met with an accident, was admitted. I went to the surgical ward and saw a number of patients lying in their beds. Some patients were plastered on their legs while others had bandages on different parts of their bodies. A doctor and a nurse were attending them. As I wanted to see more of this hospital, I then went to the medical ward. Here also, I found a number of patients lying in their beds. As compared to the patients in the surgical ward, their faces were more thoughtful and gloomier. They were suffering from various kinds of diseases and the doctor was attending to them very nicely. The nurse was administering injections to some of the patients, the others were given medicines. While returning, I saw the operating theatre. It appeared that an operation was in progress inside the theatre as the light outside the gate exhibited a sign in red that the operation was in progress. I came out of the hospital with a heavy mind. It was a place of suffering and a place of healing. I saw humanity in a different shape here. The hospital left an impression on me that the care paid to the patients at this hospital was praiseworthy.

Visit to a Hospital
A visit to the hospital is a whole lot of experience in itself. Last summer, one of my friends had an accident and was admitted to hospital. When I went to see him, I went to the hospital for the very first time in my life.
As I entered the hospital, I saw people coming and going there. I went to the inquiry office and enquired about the words to find where my friend was admitted. Firstly, I passed through the surgical ward, I saw patients lying silently on their beds. Some of the patients had their arms and legs bandaged and plastered. Various nurses and doctors were attending them. The doctor was directing the nurse to give the necessary treatment and medicine. His way of talking itself was very consoling. Quietness was prevailing throughout the whole ward.
In the next ward, patients were lying pensively on their beds. From their faces, I guessed their pathetic plight. The doctor came round followed by other staff members. He inquired about the welfare of all the patients one by one and that too very sympathetically and patiently. He was also giving injections to some of the patients. To others, he prescribed medicines.
Some patients who were accompanied by their relatives were also seen. The relatives were squatting in the lawns of the hospital. Some of the people were going home after recovering completely from their illness and were in a highly delighted mood.
On the whole, the entire hospital presented a very gloomy look. The plight of the patients and the seriousness of the atmosphere prevailing there touched me deep within. The behaviour of doctors and nurses was worthy of commendations. They acted most wisely and ably in handling the problems of the patients. When I came out of the hospital, I realised that there is a whole lot of difference in the atmosphere that prevails inside and outside the hospital.
