A Journey by Train
Travelling in a train is an experience in itself.
Two months back I travelled by Shalimar Express from Delhi to Ludhiana, to attend an important business meeting. I had got a berth reserved and reached the station half an hour before the departure of my train. I hired a coolie who carried my suitcase to the platform.
All kinds of people were crowding on the platform. There was a lot of noise as the train was arriving.
The Shalimar Express arrived and passenger stormed in the compartments as everyone wanted to catch a berth. I got into my compartment and sat near a window.
As the train started moving, the scene outside the train started changing. Passengers began to talk with each other. Some were reading newspaper or magazines while others were gossiping. Some were also smoking. As I was sitting near the window, I was enjoying the fascinating scene outside. I saw wild flowers, green pastures and flowing streams and the trees and the houses seemed to be running in the opposite direction. Farmers could also be seen ploughing their fields.
The train stopped at various small stations where some passengers got down and some boarded the train.
Around 5 p.m. I reached my destination. I came out of the railway station and took an auto rickshaw to my hotel.
It was an interesting train journey.
