The Hare and the Tortoise

A hare and a tortoise were good neighbours. The hare was proud of his speed-and agility. He often ridiculed the tortoise for his slowness and slackness. The tortoise said nothing in return and kept mum. One day the hare crossed all the limits and insulted the tortoise in the presence, of other animals. He challenged the poor tortoise to run a race with him if he had guts and courage. The poor tortoise accepted his challenge.

A winning post was fixed. This unequal race became the talk of the jungle. A large number of animals left their home and hearth and came out to enjoy the race and cheer up the participants. The race started. The hare covered a lot of distance in a jiffy. The tortoise was left far behind. Being over-confident of his speed the hare decided to take some rest. He fast asleep stretched himself under the cool shade of a big tree and fell fast asleep.

The tortoise kept on moving slowly and steadily did not think nay rest on the way as any rest could be suicidal. He saw the winning post a few meters away. In the mean time got up and rubbed his eyes. He rushed towards the goal. Reaching there he was taken aback. He saw the tortoise calmly sitting there. He covered his face with his hands-to avoid the laughing eyes of the spectators. His head was hung with shame. He congratulated the tortoise and apologized for his rude behaviour and hugged him. They lived happily together.

Moral: Pride hath a fall,

Or

Slow and steady wins the race.
