The Hare and The Tortoise
Once there was a hare. There was a tortoise too. Both of them lived as good neighbours. The hare was very proud of his speed and fast action. He often condemned the tortoise for his slowness and slackness. The poor tortoise listened this all and kept mum. He knew he was a slow mover and so he kept quiet. One day the vain hare puffed up too much and went very far in scolding the tortoise. He even challenged the tortoise to run a race with him just for the sake of its fun. He wanted further to show down the tortoise. The poor tortoise had no other way but to accept the challenge bravely. This he did in presence of many other animals living nearly. He was a brave tortoise.
A day was fixed and also a winning post. Many animals gather to watch the unequal race between the hare and tortoise. Thus the race began at the appointed time. The hare in a single run covered about more than half of the distance. Being overconfident on his speed, he thought of taking some rest as he knew that the tortoise would take not less than two hours to reach there. He went to have a nap under a shady tree and soon fell fast asleep. He went on sleeping for a long time without thinking about the race.
The tortoise kept on moving slowly and steadily without taking any rest. He knows that his defeat was sure but he was unmindful of that. He kept on moving till sunset When he was about to reach the post, the hare got up on the other hand and very quickly rushed towards the goal. Alas ! when he reached there, he saw the tortoise was already there. His head was hung with shame. He asked forgiveness from the tortoise for his rude behaviour with-him.
Moral : Slow and steady wins- the race.
