A Stitch in Time Saves Nine
The saying does not mean that if we have a torn dress we should mend it immediately. Rather it implies that we should never put off doing a thing if we look for success. If we do not attend to the small tear in our dress in time, it will grow bigger and bigger till the dress is not fit to wear. Similarly if we catch an illness, we should immediately see a doctor. Otherwise we might have to suffer in bed fur a long time. Prevention is better than cure. We should always take steps to foresee trouble and plan to get out of it at the earliest. This is true not only in physical affairs like stitching and attending to disease, but also to social and moral affairs. If we annoy a friend we should make up immediately by saying, “I am sorry.” This will save a lot of bitterness and anger. Further, this will put our friendship on sound footing.
