A Fire
On a December night, I woke up to find that my bedroom was full of smoke. I thought that our house was on fire. I shouted “Fire !Fire !” and ran out. But to my relief and yet a worry too, a neighbour’s house was on fire. The angry flames were rising higher and higher as the clouds of smoke entered the neighbouring houses. People were trying in vain to bring the fire under control. By the time fire engines had arrived, however, the people feared that fire might spread to other houses. But the fire tenders brought the fire under control in two hours. A child was saved from being burnt, but no goods could be saved. The total loss came to about 5 Iakh rupees. The cause of fire was a short circuit in the electric wiring of the house.
